Division of Continuing Studies
Statement of Purpose
The Division of Continuing Studies Center for Accelerated and Adult Education exists to meet the flexible educational needs of non-traditional (adult, online, etc.) learners. As such, it provides flexible undergraduate degree completion programs in business, communication, entrepreneurship, history, human services, interdisciplinary studies, elementary education, and elementary education/special education.
These programs capitalize on a flexible learning experience and extend our mission: as a Catholic university, Mount St. Mary’s graduates ethical leaders who are inspired by a passion for learning and lead lives of significance in service to God and others.
Students seeking admission to the program should complete the following steps:
- Complete an application from admission, available online at https://msmary.edu/applications.html
- Have all official college transcripts sent to Mount St. Mary’s University Frederick Campus Attention: Associate Director of Admissions, 5350 Spectrum Drive Frederick, MD 21703 or frederickadmissions@msmary.edu.
- For first year college students only, you will need to submit your official final high school transcript sent directly from your high school to the Admissions office. Your high school may send it electronically through an official transcript sending service.
- Instructions for planning your schedule and meeting with your advisor will be provided as part of the admissions/onboarding process.
Center for Accelerated and Adult Education Undergraduate Academic Programs
Mount St. Mary’s Division of Continuing Education offers the following degree-completion programs:
Majors:
- Business, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- Communication, Continuing Studies, B.A.
- Elementary Education, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- Elementary Education with Special Education, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- Elementary Education with Early Childhood Education, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- Elementary Education with Special Education and Early Childhood Education, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- Entrepreneurship, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- History, Continuing Studies, B.A.
- Human Services, Continuing Studies, B.S.
- Interdisciplinary Studies, Continuing Studies, B.A. or B.S
Minors:
Interdisciplinary Majors
In addition to the majors listed above, students may choose to complete an interdisciplinary major that they design in consultation with appropriate faculty. Such majors must develop a self-design degree plan with no less than 33 credits, at least 18 credits of which consists of course work at the 300 or 400 level. The degree plan must be approved by the appropriate program directors/department chairs and by the associate provost. For example, a student interested in a business communication interdisciplinary major would work with program directors from Communication and Business.
Any student proposing to design an interdisciplinary major must submit to the associate provost an approved self-design degree plan along with the signed Change of Major form.
Students in all programs must complete the Mount core curriculum as well as all course requirements in their major program of study and general electives. Please see individual program descriptions for further information.
