A minimum of 120 credit hours is required for the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
The Interdisciplinary Studies program at the Mount provides a customized educational experience for students interested in combining two interrelated academic areas into one program of study. Students must work with their academic advisor to develop a plan and submit it for approval to the Department Chair/Program Directors of each major field of study, and then to the Office of the Associate Provost for final approval. The program may be a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, depending on the content, subject to approval by the Office of the Associate Provost.

Major Requirements
33 Credits:
Major requirements will be determined by working with the student’s academic advisor, and are subject to approval from the Department Chair/Program Directors from each area of study as well as the Associate Provost. The major requirements must include at least 33 credits from two interrelated areas, at least 18 of those credits must be upper-level (300- or 400-level) courses, and at least 18 credits of the major requirements must be completed at the Mount.
Core Requirements
40 Credits:
Mount Seminar (3 credits)
Complete the Mount Seminar.
College Writing Requirement (3 Credits)
Complete 3 credits from among the following courses:
Core Humanities Requirements (12 Credits)
Complete 12 total credits and each of the subcategories in the Core Humanities Group
- Core Arts, Lang, Lit Requirement (3 credits). Choose one of the following:
- BUS 260 Business Communication (3)
- ENGL XXX English Course (3)
- FAAR XXX Fine Arts: Visual Arts (3)
- FAMU XXX Fine Arts: Music (3)
- FATH XXX Fine Arts: Theater
- Foreign Language
- Core History Requirement (3 credits). Choose one of the following:
- Core Global Encounters Requirement (3 credits)
- XXGE 3XX Global Encounters Requirement
- Global Encounters courses are offered in many departments, including Business, Communication, Foreign Language, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology and Theology.
- Additional Humanities Course (3 Credits)
- Students must complete one additional humanities course from any of the above categories in order to reach 12 total credit hours. Some courses may double count between the above categories, but students must reach 12 total in order to complete the requirement.
Social Science Requirement (3 Credits)
Complete three credits of Social Science

To earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, students must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
