Dual Degree: Health Sciences, B.S./Health Administration, M.H.A.

More information about School of Natural Science and Mathematics:

A minimum of 120 credit hours is required for a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences followed by 36 credits for the Master of Science in Health Administration (Occupational Therapy Track, Physical Therapy Track, and Pre-Nursing Track).

Work at the interface of where healthcare and business meet. The Mount’s MHA program provides the skills needed to advance your career in health administration by helping you effectively communicate with patients, doctors and the community’s health organizations serve.

The Dual Degree Program in Health Sciences and Health Administration is designed for students interested in careers in the healthcare industry.

Our 5-year dual degree program provides a five-year pathway to earning a B.S. in Health Sciences and a Master degree in Health Administration, preparing you to apply your skills in hospital administration, medical staff management, patient advocacy, and community engagement among others.

There are two phases to the dual degree programs:

Phase I:  Students pursing the dual degree pathway will enroll at the MSMU Emmitsburg (main) campus to pursue their BS degree in health sciences.  Completion of the BS degree requires a minimum of 120 credits and fulfilling the requirements of both the core curriculum and major. Students will apply for acceptance into the dual degree program once they have completed 60 credits of undergraduate coursework (typically during the spring semester of year two) and begin taking courses in the MHA program in years three and four.  Phase II initiates upon completion of the BS degree in year four.

Health Sciences, B.S.

Phase II:  Following graduation in year four, students will transition from an undergraduate student status to graduate student status.  All graduate courses are offered in a flexible course format that allows students to attend graduate classes, held on our Frederick campus, either in person or via web conferencing.   Full-time graduate course work combines advanced training in both healthcare and business areas and begins in the summer between years four and five.

Application Process and Timeline:

Students interested in pursuing the 5-year dual degree will indicate their interest to their academic advisor prior to their third year. Formal application to the program will occur during phase I, upon completion of at least 60 credits of undergraduate coursework (typically in spring of the second year).  Application deadline for fall is June 1 and Spring deadline is December 1. Eligible students will have a 3.0 or higher overall GPA and will have earned a 2.75 or higher GPA  in the health sciences major.
