Director: Russell Hamer
The Mount’s value of academic excellence instructs us to “educate students to advance human understanding of our world and the human condition.” Given that games are a sizeable part of our culture, the Esports and Game Studies minor strives to give our students the tools to critically examine games and ethically engage with them.
In the minor, students will:
- Examine the philosophical, sociological, and artistic meaning behind games.
- Explore the ways in which games, as systems, lead to emergent forms of human behavior.
- Examine games and gaming as products of our culture.
- Recognize the potential for games to create avenues for human flourishing.
- Understand the esports and gaming industries and how these industries connect to the human experience.
