Mount Online


The Mount Online undergraduate programs exist to meet the flexible educational needs of non-residential learners. As such, it provides flexible undergraduate degree and graduate degree programs offering only online asynchronous, online synchronous and online blended courses (See course formats).  Students may begin at all stages of education. We accept prospective first year students and transfer students into both our undergraduate and graduate programs.

These programs capitalize on a flexible learning experience and extend our University’s mission: as a Catholic university, Mount St. Mary’s graduates ethical leaders who are inspired by a passion for learning and lead lives of significance in service to God and others.

Students seeking admission to the program should complete the following steps:

  1. Complete an application from admission, available online at  https://msmary.edu/applications.html
  2. Have all official college transcripts sent to Mount St. Mary’s University Frederick Campus Attention: Associate Director of Admissions, 5350 Spectrum Drive Frederick, MD 21703 or frederickadmissions@msmary.edu .
  3. For first year college students only, you will need to submit your official final high school transcript sent directly from your high school to the Admissions office. Your high school may send it electronically through an official transcript sending service.
  4. Instructions for planning your schedule and meeting with your advisor will be provided as part of the admissions/onboarding process.

 Mount Online Programs

Students in all programs must complete the Mount core curriculum as well as all course requirements in their major program of study and general electives. Please see individual program descriptions for further information.

 Course Formats

Synchronous A course with regularly scheduled meeting times using web-conferencing only (i.e., Zoom).
Asynchronous A course with all content is delivered online without a specific course meeting day or time. Instead, content is completed within assigned date ranges. Any scheduled meetings are typically limited to capstone events and/or proctored exams.
Blended A course with synchronous meetings using web-conferencing (i.e., Zoom) and asynchronous teaching in Canvas blended to equal the required credit hours. The meeting day and time will indicate the synchronous webconferencing portion of the class.
