STDAB 201 - Greek Life and Culture

Greek Life and Culture is taught in Greece in person by a College Year in Athens (CYA) faculty member. This course will introduce students to the cultural peculiarities, historical intricacies and political realities of Greek life and culture. Canvassing modern history, from the War of Independence and dominant ideologies of nineteenth century to the defining events of the twentieth century, the course will address key historical events and socio-political changes as well as their impact on the formation of contemporary Greek culture. The professor uses Greece as an entry point to discuss not only the particularities of the country but also the multiple ways the country interacts with larger cultural systems and contexts, such as the Mediterranean, the Balkans or South Europe. This course is only available for students who are studying abroad with an MSMU faculty member in Greece. Spring, Odd Years
