ENGL 392 - Royal Scandals and Criminal Minds

Credits: (3)
Some of the most significant modern and contemporary British culture engages with these themes to examine celebrity, privacy, morality, and authority amid the ongoing decline of the British empire. These themes are most embodied and held in tension in two dominant figures of the twentieth and twenty-first century: (1) the British aristocracy and royalty and (2) the rise of what has been called “The Great Criminal.” This class examines how royalty and criminality dominated the imagination of two centuries of British culture. This course fulfills the British/European literature requirement for the English major.
