SPAN 438 - Cine y Ficción Latinoamericana

The study of works of fiction from Latin America and their adaptation to cinema. In this course students will read literary works followed by the movie made of them. By reading the novels, we will analyze the literary works –the point of view of the escritor-and by watching the movie, –the point of view of the cineasta–. A few movies, based on fictional works, change drastically from the original/literary version, aspect which will be considered as part of the class discussions. Among the works the class will read are:Pedro Páramoby Juan Rulfo; Eneltiempode las mariposas by Julia Alvarez; La fiesta del chivoby Mario Vargas Llosa. Prerequisite(s): SPAN 301 or equivalent.
