PSCI 250 - Democracy and Democratization Credits: (3) This course is designed for sophomores and juniors majoring in political science or international studies. In this course, we examine democratic politics around the world with an emphasis on transitions to democracy (both historical and contemporary), the role of political institutions, and social movements. Case studies and regional analysis from Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa will be combined with examination of broader issues such as the advantages and disadvantages of democracy, the relationship between democracy and development, and the impact of globalization. Prerequisite(s): Sophomore status required.
