ENGL 305 - Medieval Literature: Credits: (3) In this course, students will encounter some of the most profound and influential literary works produced in the Middle Ages. This course satisfies the Britain and Europe Literature requirement in the English major. Some sub-topics offered are:
Chaucer and the Global Middle Ages: *The Canterbury Tales* is a major text in this course
Divine and Human Comedies: Between them, Dante and Chaucer articulated the full scope of the medieval Christian vision of God, the cosmos, and humanity, from the heights to the depths.
Medieval Literature and Medievalism: Literature of the Middle Ages has inspired new literary traditions ever since, and this course will consider not only works of literature from the Middle Ages, but later works inspired by them, including modern fantasy, television, and video games, as well as how the Middle Ages have been reimagined in a diverse, global context. This course satisfies the Britain and Europe Literature requirement in the English major.
