Note
A major in Spanish consists of 34 credits beginning at the 200 level including prior-learning credits. In addition, majors must complete SPAN 302 Grammar and Composition (3) (Advanced Grammar), two courses in which they study Spain and two courses in which they study Latin America. Normally, majors must take at least 22 credits in Spanish at Mount St. Mary’s, of which a minimum of six credits must be taken during the senior year for those students who have a single major, and three credits for those with a double major. In addition students must complete a Capstone project by the fall of their senior year. Students must have completed a minimum of 24 credits before being allowed to start their Capstone project. Students who study abroad with one of the Spanish professors may complete their Capstone project earlier than senior year. Students should consult with a Spanish professor to discuss how to complete their Capstone Experience. A student who received a 5 on the AP Grammar exam can be exempted from taking SPAN 302 Grammar and Composition (3) and replace it with another 300/400- level course.
To earn a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours. Students must also earn a major GPA of 2.0, and a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
