Reading (Grade K-12), Certificate of Advanced Study

This program is designed for certified teachers holding a master’s degree and seeking a program leading to a reading specialist certificate, K-12.

The Certificate of Advanced Study in Reading requires completion of 24 credits.

MEDUC 600 - Roles of the Literacy Specialist/Coach Credits: (3)
MEDUC 601 - Advanced Processes and Acquisition of Reading Credits: (3)
MEDUC 602 - Teaching Literacy to Linguistically Diverse Learners Credits: (3)
MEDUC 603 - Teaching Disciplinary Literacy Credits: (3)
MEDUC 604 - Literacy Assessment Seminar Credits: (3)
MEDUC 605 - Literacy Specialist Practicum Credits: (6) *
MSPED 606 - Teaching and Learning in Neurodiverse Classrooms Credits: (3)

Notes

* All courses can be completed in the evenings except MEDUC 605 - Literacy Specialist Practicum . The practicum requires 90 hours of on-site experiences that can only be completed during the day (fee applies).

Changing to Degree Status

If a student wishes to change from a certificate only program to a degree program, he/she must submit a Change of Program Request Form.
A maximum of 24 credits from the certificate of advanced study in Reading may apply to the Reading (Grade K-12), M.Ed. program.
Deadline: Students must submit a Change of Program Request Form to their program director before completing the requirements for the certificate.
