GNSCI 133 - Physical Science: Astronomy Credits: (4) This laboratory-based course is designed to introduce the student to the role that observational astronomy has played in the development of scientific thought and our understanding of the universe, from the Big Bang to the distant future. Topics will include the history of astronomy, the physics and chemistry underlying the functioning of the universe, the development of the telescope, extraterrestrial threats to life on earth, as well as a detailed examination of our solar system and beyond, from its beginning to its eventual end. Laboratory experiments will include telescopic observations as well as computer simulations. Integrated lecture and lab. Prerequisite(s): none. (As needed)
