FREN 410 - French Literary Conquest of Latin America Credits: (3) The Argentinean writer Manuel Ugarte characterizes the extensive French influence in Latin American letters and culture as a “conquest.” This course examines the sources of the “literary conquest” by studying several major cultural and literary achievements of 19th- and early 20th-century France that helped to shape the literary production of a number of Latin American authors. The course also examines several works by Latin American writers who have written in French or who have been translated into French. Prerequisite(s): FREN 301 or equivalent.
