An introduction to the chemistry of the compounds of carbon-containing molecules, with emphasis on functional groups. Study of the structure, reactivity and synthesis of organic molecules; the mechanism of specific reactions; introductory instrumental techniques; and introductory biochemistry. Laboratory technique to synthesize, isolate and characterize organic compounds. CHEM 201 also introduces biochemical molecules’ structure and simple reactivity as well. Lecture and lab. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 101-CHEM 102 (Fall and Spring)
