SOC 208 - Food and Society

Credits: (3)
Food is more than nourishment; it is social, cultural, and political. This course examines how societies construct the meaning of food and how it connects to identity, community, and social inequality. Students will explore the symbolic meanings of food, its production, distribution, and access, and how cultural values shaped by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and other social dynamics influence our everyday relationships with food. No prerequisite.
