PHIL 105 - Mythology and Philosophy Credits: (3) This course will examine mythology with an emphasis on the philosophical questions raised within it. We will focus primarily on the myths of ancient Greece and Rome, but will also consider those from other traditions like Mesopotamia and Northern Europe. Through close analysis, we will uncover the context, themes, and motifs of different mythological traditions, allowing us to compare myths across different cultures. We will also engage the interdisciplinary nature of mythology by exploring its influence on literature, art, and contemporary media. The course provides an excellent introduction to philosophy and critical thinking as well as an opportunity to enter into mythological narratives while fostering a deeper appreciation for the richness of the human experience.
