GNSCI 143 - Biological Science: Vaccines Credits: (4) This laboratory course is designed to fulfill the Natural World domain requirement. It explores the nature of science through in-depth discovery of contemporary issues in the discipline of Vaccines. Students will gain an understanding of the scientific worldview, the process of scientific inquiry, the enterprise of science, and the role of science in history and society. By using quantitative reasoning and critical thinking, students will solve problems in an integrated lecture and lab setting. Specific issues addressed in this course include: components and functions of the immune system; biotechnology; vaccine characteristics, development, testing, use, efficacy, and safety; and the vaccine debate.
