FREN 435 - From Egypt to Lebanon: Francophone Cultural Expressions in the Levant Credits: (3) This course examines the political and cultural contributions of the French-speaking writers, visual artists (including filmmakers) and musicians to the mosaic of cultures in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Egypt. Beginning with the establishment of French-speaking communities during the Napoleonic invasions, this course examines ways in which the dialogue with Western culture particularly through the French tradition has shaped the contemporary experience of peoples in the Levant. Prerequisite(s): FREN 102 Beginning French II (3) or equivalent.
