This course invites an examination of the ways literary texts from a variety of cultures capture how humans have understood and interacted with the natural world. The following topics may be explored under this course title:

  • Endangered Species, Furry Friends, and Creature Features: Focus on living among our non-human companions.
  • Finding Hope amid Climate Change: Explores through literary texts one of the greatest challenges of our time.
  • Our (L) one Planet: Focuses on how our understanding of the natural world has evolved through the literary tradition.
