CHEM 201 - Organic Chemistry I Credits: (4) An introduction to the chemistry of the compounds of carbon-containing molecules, with emphasis on functional groups. Study of the structure, reactivity and synthesis of organic molecules; the mechanism of specific reactions; introductory instrumental techniques; and introductory biochemistry. Laboratory technique to synthesize, isolate and characterize organic compounds. CHEM 201 also introduces biochemical molecules’ structure and simple reactivity as well. Lecture and lab. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 101 General Chemistry I (4) -CHEM 102 General Chemistry II (4) must also be passed with a minimum grade of C- or higher. (Fall and Spring)
