Academic and Other Resources


Identification Cards

The MOUNTcard is a multifunctional campus ID card. It is the official photo ID for the Mount. All students (undergraduate and graduate) are issued a card. The card serves the following functions:

  • Library card
  • Use of the Knott Athletic Recreation and Convocation Complex
  • Entrance to athletic events
  • Option of opening a prepaid debit account for spending on campus
  • Printer use
  • Badge access to enter the Frederick Campus

Students may request their Mount ID card by uploading a photo and completing the information on the Mount Card link.  For questions, contact the Mount Card Office at mountcard@msmary.edu or (301) 447-5348. Please indicate on the form if you will be picking your Mount ID card up at the Frederick campus or the Emmitsburg campus.

Emergency or Class Cancellations

Students are encourage to sign up to the Mount Alert system (www.msmary.edu/mymountalert) to receive messages on class cancellations or emergencies. In the event of severe weather, students can also contact the weather line at 301-447-5777, check the Mount website, www.msmary.edu, or listen to area radio stations for announcements. Please note that it is possible for one campus location to close while another remains open. Frederick students can also call the Frederick Campus at 301-682-8315.

Vehicle Registration

When at the main campus in Emmitsburg, please register your vehicle in person with Public Safety (the small white building located at the main entrance to campus). There is no cost for vehicle registration. While the Office of Public Safety is open around the clock, normal business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Public Safety personnel are still able to issue temporary parking permits outside of normal business hours.

Unless otherwise directed, commuting graduate students may park in lot 10, next to the Memorial Gym, and in lot 8, near the Apartments and the main campus entrance, across Annandale Road from the Office of Public Safety/Visitor’s Center. Resident graduate students are permitted to park in lot 7 (Bicentennial Hall), lot 10 (Memorial Gym), or in the lots adjacent to the Graduate House on East Campus. If you have any questions regarding parking or similar matters, contact Public Safety at 301-447-5210.

Vehicle registration is not required for Frederick campus students.

Information Technology

Online Access

All Mount St. Mary’s students receive online access to course and account information, libraries and research opportunities.

Email

Mount e-mail is essential for adequate communication with the faculty and administration and for important notices sent out periodically from the Continuing Studies programs. All Mount information from the division will be sent to students’ Mount e-mail address. After acceptance, your Mount email address & password will be sent to the email address that you provided on your admissions application. To access your email account, go to live.msmary.edu and log in with your email address and password. At this point all correspondence from Mount St. Mary’s University will be sent to your Mount email account.

MyMount

MyMount can be accessed by going to mymount.msmary.edu and logging in with your username and password. Please note, when logging into MyMount, only use your username and not your entire email address. The following information can be found on MyMount: course registration, course schedule, account balance, make payments, final grades, unofficial transcripts, online FERPA release form and various other student forms.

Canvas

Canvas is the Mount’s learning management system (LMS) used for each course. The following information can be found on Canvas: course syllabus; instructor information; online course materials; required readings & assignments; test, quiz & assignment grades. Courses are visible 1-2 weeks prior to the class start date. Log in to Canvas by going to msmary.instructure.com and use your full Mount email and password.

Career Center Services

The Career Center builds opportunities for students and alumni to take an active role in their career development through career and graduate school counseling, educational programming, such as internships, and employer services. Our mission is to assist every Mount student, past and present, with the task of articulating their journey to become ethical leaders who live significantly.

The Career Center offers a comprehensive program to assist students and alumni in addressing career concerns and options to be successful in today’s global economy. Services include, but are not limited to, career counseling, self-assessment inventories, assistance with cover letters and résumés, interview preparation, on-campus interviews, job fairs, networking opportunities, and other job search strategies.

Frederick students can call for an appointment. We meet in person, on skype or zoom or by phone.

The Career Center strives to support all Mount students and alumni through the transition from academic learning to their lives as productive, responsible citizens. The Career Center also hosts numerous events and workshops throughout the semester. Please see www.msmary.edu/career for more information.

Obtaining Official Mount St. Mary’s Graduate Transcripts

Official transcripts can be issued in either paper or electronic format.

Transcript Fees:

  • Electronic Transcript: $6.00  (not available for students who attended before 1994.)
  • Printed and Mailed or Pickup Order: $8.85
  • Additional delivery fees for international orders, shipping to Canada/Mexico, express shipping, and certified mail are viewable on the order checkout screens.

Written request must be made for each transcript. The request will be made online through this link: https://inside.msmary.edu/registrar/transcript-requests.html.

No request can be honored until the financial account has been cleared by the Finance Office. Requests will be processed as expeditiously as possible; however, a minimum of five working days should be allowed for processing. During examination periods, registration and the two-week period immediately before and after the end of semesters, there may be an additional delay.

Confidentiality of Student Records

The graduate programs abide by the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Under this act, no unauthorized individuals are allowed to see a student’s record without the written permission of the student.

Graduate Student Representation

Each year, representatives from the University graduate programs are appointed to serve on the following campus committees:

Mount Council

Advises the president on matters placed before the council by the president or members of the council. Coordinates all planning activities, reviews annual operating budgets, recommends policies and practices of governing the Mount, and serves as a communication vehicle to various Mount constituencies.

Committee for Curriculum and Assessment

Initiates or reviews proposals and makes recommendations on matters related to undergraduate academic programs, graduate programs, policies, academic assessment, and services.

Technology Advisory Committee

Advises the president, the other executive officers, and the directors of technical services and user services on the implementation of technology to support the objectives of the University including the seminary. Also serves an educational purpose as the vehicle through which information on technology-related matters is disseminated campus wide through its representatives.
