HIST 356 - The Italian Renaissance

Credits: (3)
Between 1400 and 1600, the Italian peninsula produced such a dazzling array of artists, writers, and thinkers that modern scholars have often concluded that modern civilization was born, or rather, reborn, in Renaissance Italy. What explains Renaissance Italy’s brilliant cultural achievements, what was the society like that produced them, and what does the Italian Renaissance have to do with modern civilization? In this course, we will examine these questions as we explore the artwork, literature, and political thought of one of history’s most captivating eras. Prerequisite(s): (HIST 202 )
