GNSCI 139 - Biological Science: Plants and Society

This laboratory course is designed to fulfill the core science requirement. It explores the nature of science through in-depth discovery of contemporary issues in the discipline of Plant Biology. Students will gain an understanding of the scientific worldview, the process of scientific inquiry, the enterprise of science, and the role of plants in history and society. By using quantitative reasoning and critical thinking, students will solve problems in an integrated lecture and lab setting. Specific issues addressed in this course include impact of agricultural development on society, economic effects of specific plants, and historically important plants and their development through both traditional breeding and biotechnology.
